PAC3 BIGHT THI JACKSON SUN: JACKSON, TENN SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 1948 WANT ADS 7-3333 turn -MacRae dH ilroa our Ra Bing Crosby Begins 3rd Year On WTJS-ABC Wednesday; MacRae Stars On New Show Bing Crosby's Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team are New ABC Documentary Concerning Berlin Crisis Is Scheduled For Late Fail Focusing attention on the East-West crisis in Berlin, the American Broadcasting Company will produce a new documentary program about the crises and background involved in the German peace settlement, it was announced today by Robert Saudek, vice-president in charge of public affairs for ABC. The documentary is planned for late Fall broadcast. He plans to meet with the top officials of the German occupation during a month's survey. Commenting on the ABC network's latest major presentation in its 1948 series of documentaries. Saudek said: "We shall consider the immediate German situation, as it is reflected in the chain of crises In Berlin, against a background of the long-range problems resulting from the world-wide clash of economics and ideologies which become more apparent in the world situation each day." Saudek also stated that "Beginning with the Moscow Conference of 1943 new ABC documentary will review and spotlight the ebb and flow of international negotiations since that time, with consideration to be given to the personalities involved. "In addition to dealing with the Berlin blockade, the air-lift currency reform and reparations, the five vital "D's" of building a German peace will be examined demilitarization, denazification, decentralization, de-industrialization and democratization. These goals, as foundations upon which to build the peace for Germany, and consequently, for all of Europe, will be evaluated." Sixth in a series of documentary broadcasts, the examination of the German peace question will follow the most recent ABC Public Affairs Department presentation.

"Communism U. S. Brand." which reviewed Communist activities in America and gained nationwide acclaim. Other outstanding ABC documentaries were D. A Conspiracy of Silence," a documentary on social diseases; Jimmy Cricket!" a study of America's economic future: "School Teacher 1947." three programs dealing with the crisis in public education, and two broadcasts about sub-standard housing titled.

"Slums-I and Slums-II." As on all ABC documentaries, painstaking research will go into the production of the program on the German question. During the past month members of the ABC public affairs department have spent considerable time in Washington in study and research of the background and present status of the problem. No writer has yet been assicrned to do the scriot. While in Europe Saudek will have an opportunity to confer with the special television motion picture crew beaded by Julien Bryan, executive director of the International Film Foundation, who Is now shooting film for use in the WTJS At The Fair Larry Blair, seated and Don Davidson spent the entire week at the West Tennessee District Fair broadcasting several shows daily from the WTJS booth. James Stewart Stars On Theatre Guilds 'That's Lutheran Pastor Asks Faith In Christ's Redemption An appeal for faith in Christ's completed redemption was issued today by the Reverend Doctor John W.

Behnken, president of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod summer guest speaker on Bringing Christ to the Nations, the International Lutheran Hour. Dr. Behnken declared: "Europe, which during the past three decades has twice been a bloody battlefield, the scene of gory warfare, of indescribalble destruction Bing learns that his sons. In addition to the "Rhythmaires," Bing is again joined by John Scott Trotter and his orchestra and the announcing antics of veteran Ken Carpenter. Philco Radio Time is produced and directed by Bill Morrow and Murdo MacKenzie. The Railroad Hour, a new weekly musical program featuring Gordon MacRae as singing host and master of ceremonies and top flight guest stars in presentations of musical comedy and operetta successes both old and new, will make its debut over WTJS-ABC on Monday, Oct. 4, from 7:00 to 7:43 p. m.

Highlighting music and comedy familiar to and loved by millions of Americans. The Railroad Hour, also will present brief excerpts from the story of the essential part played by railroads in the life of the nation. Originating In Hollywood. The Railroad Hour will have as regular cast members, in addition to MacRae, the popular orchestra of Carmen Dragon and a mixed chorus under the direction of Norman Luboff. The program will draw its material not only from recent box office successes but also from the classics of musical comedy and light opera.

As emcee of The Railroad Hours show train. MacRae will fill a role well suited to his talents as singer and actor. Following his stage debut 'as the Juvenile In "Junior Miss." McElroy Continues TVA Project Started By Tom Breneman When Jack McElroy takes over the emcee role of ABCs Breakfast in Hollywood, which will be heard on WTJS at 1:00 p.

m. starting Oct 4th, one of the first things he will do will be to complete a service started on that air show by the late Tom Breneman. Jack will purchase and present to the veterans at the Sawtelle Hospital as many television sets as $1500 will buy. The project started when Gertrude Kugel. an ABC employee who serves as a voluntary hostess at the hospital, asked Breneman to call for contributions for television sets.

Tom, agreeing that the sets would help the boys "get through the walls of their wards," obtained about $1500 before his untimely death. During the period in which Garry Moore has been emceeing the breakfast-serving program. Miss Kugel has been shopping around for the best and most sets that $1500 can buy. She'll have them for delivery at just about the time McElroy takes over the ABC "mike" from Moore and the Sawtelle patients will have their sets in time to catch some of the season's football classics. McElroy plans to present the TV sets to Sawtelle personally, possibly conducting a little program at the hospital at the same time.

"When Sawtelle's all fixed up with television sets." Jack remarked, "we might go to work getting them for other hospitals. There Romance Of Jewels Tells Of Orfoff-Diamond Tonight "The Romance of Famous Jewels" will be heard starting tonight, at 6 P. M. Tonight's thrilling story tells of the Orloff Diamond. Commissar Bruekhenin, a high Soviet official, is holding a press conference in Kuibyshev, while the Nazis are fightiing sixty miles from Moscow.
