Reporter dies in Mississippi The Associated Press CHEYENNE, Wyo. Danny Katayama, 34, an Associated Press reporter in Cheyenne since 1995, died Sunday in Mississippi. The reporter, who was visiting Starkville, attend graduation ceremonies for his brother, Katayama Andrew, collapsed while jogging with his brother and could not be revived. Katayama joined The Associated Press in 1 Cheyenne in January 1995, where he covered a wide range of topics, including Wyoming's Legislature, natural resource issues and sports. Before joining the AP, he worked for The Jackson (Tenn.) Sun.

He joined The Sun in July 1992 after working for four years at the Des Moines (Iowa) Register. While in Des Moines, he coached a Little League baseball team. Katayama was born in Denver in January 1963 to Henry and Sachiko Katayama. He received his bachelor's degree in American studies from Pomona College in 1 Claremont, in 1985, where he also played baseball. He is survived by his parents and brothers, Andrew of Starkville and Derrick of Lakewood.
