deaths 12C The Jackson Sun, Jackson, Tennessee, Sunday, September 20, 1981 Pol ice end ha If way house siege Arthur Abels Arthur Charles Abels, comptroller for Burke Steel Corp. of Rochester, N.Y., died Saturday in Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester after a long illness. He was the brother of Charles Henry Abels Jr. of Jackson. Funeral arrangements are incomplete with Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home in charge.

The body will be returned to Jackson for services and said. All but the woman escaped unharmed. The halfway house is for people with drug or alcohol problems, police said. Hospice development meeting scheduled A hospice development meeting will be 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Colonial Room, Lambuth College Student Union Building.

The meeting is a joint project of the West Tennessee Health Improvement Association and the. Regional Inter-Faith Association. Those interested in setting up a hospice in the area are urged to attend. Speakers for the evening will be Iris Kozil, president of Hospice of Tennessee, and Mary O'Connell, home care coordinator of a Nashville hospice. A hospice is a system of health care for the terminally ill and bereavement care for their families.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) A rehabilitation home resident shot a woman hostage and hurled her from a second-floor window Saturday before police filled the house with tear gas and captured the wounded man. The unidentified gunman was undergoing psychiatric examination after the eight-hour siege, police said. The woman, whose name was not released, was tossed from the window about 7:30 a.m.; said Police Chief William Farrell, and was in stable condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital. After the man released the hostage, a police special weapons and tactics team fired repeated volleys of tear gas into the New Haven Halfway House and exchanged shots in an attempt to force him out.

The man was armed with a revolver and shotgun, they said.
