Travolta surprises with film By MARILYN BECK and STACY JENEL SMITH Tribune Media Services HOLLYWOOD John Travolta, Reheated Star of the with his portrayal of a killer-for-hire in the Cannes Film Festival winner "Pulp Fiction," will surprise people again in "White Man's Burden." That is, at least, according to Lawrence Bender, the producer behind both movies. In the film that's now in prepro-duction, Travolta plays "an everyday, blue-collar kind of guy who loses his job, his house and his family and becomes desperate. What's really neat about 'White Man's Burden' is, the world has been reversed in that it's black people who control big business and the government and white people who have more unemployment problems, and so on." Bender says that after Travolta's character gets beaten up by a group of black cops, "a reverse on the Rodney King beating," he "ends up kidnapping this black boss, and it becomes a strong New Line Cinema a new family comedy. dramatic piece between the two men." Bender and writerdirector Desmond Nakano (the scriptor of "Last Exit to Brooklyn" and "American expect to cast Travolta's co-star momentarily.
