2B The Jackson Sun, Jackson, Tuesday, May 7, 1991 DEATHS Budget work won't include ambulance authority request Dennis Crosby, Bing's commits suicide at age 56 "I dread this budget more so than" past budgets, Leech said. If the state gives no raises to its employees, the county probably will not give raises since it usually follows the state's direction, Matthews said. Four-percent raises are figured in most of the county budget requests, Leech said. Some increases in requests for this year include $220,000 more for sheriff department deputies, $1.4 million more for sanitation and solid waste removal, $300,000 in highway bridge maintenance, $575,000 more for regular classroom teachers and $2 million more in debt service expenditures. The entire school request is $4 million more than this year's budget It would take a 66-cent increase on the county's property tax rate just to pay for the increase in the school budget This year's tax rate is $2.56 per $100 assessed valuation or about $384 in taxes on a $60,000 home.

From 1B Even without ambulance funding, committee members say this year's budget process will be tight "These requests reflect the largest increase in requests that we've seen for several years," Powers said. Many agencies, for example, are asking the county to pick where the state which faces a $378 million deficit in the next fiscal year is cutting back funding. C-The county also is facing jnajor capital projects, including new schools and school improvements and a new jail, County Executive Alex Leech said. At the same time, Gary Ligon, bounty budget director, is ex-pecting no major increases in revenues. The county could end Jhis year short of what it expected to collect from the sales tax, a major revenue for schools.

criticized Gary as "crybaby," but Dennis said that Gary did get the severest treatment from their father. Milam said since he is from Henderson County he has a feel of how the people felt and many didn't have favorable views about the case. In further arguing the case, Schaeffer said the Ford case has had "highly inflammatory publicity." Schaeffer cited several editorials and cartoons in newspapers that he said cast a negative light on Ford. Ford also has supported political causes and controversial legislation, and there has been publicity against him, Schaeffer said. This makes politics a viable aspect of the case.
