But the personable couple are no shorter on words than they are on actions. They were both active and talkative Friday as they celebrated their anniversary with some of their children at the hospital.

"An anniversary is a time to both look back and forward," Mrs. Walker commented. "We've had some funny times together, and we hope, we have some more." The bright-eyed woman recalled the time they were married by a man "who was more nervous than we were. He was shaking and everything like this, and I almost laughed." The Walkers have four grandchildren, and, after rearing their own children and helping with the grandchildren, "we've learned to take it a day at a time. "And we've never had any fighting," she said.

W. O. Walker and his wife celebrated their 70th anniversary Friday at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital where Walker is expected to stay until Tuesday. "On our 60th anniversary at our son's house, it was raining, muddy and soggy," Mrs.

Walker recalled. "Our friends and relatives had to lay sacks and planks on the road to get to the house. But the 70th anniversary is quite a difference. It would be better at home, but we're glad we're together anyway." Mrs. Walker will be 91 on Feb.

26. Her husband turned 91 Nov. 6. They have four children. Hardy Walker, Tolbert Walker and Shelton Walker, all of Dyersburg, and Cornelia Walker Jones of Jackson.
